Ukraine exported 793 thousand tons of steel by rail to Poland in 9 months

During the same period, iron ore exports reached 2.45 million tons. According to the results of January-September, 2.45 million tons of iron and manganese ore were exported to Poland through railway border crossings. The dynamics of the decline is 29% y/y. These data are provided by JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia,” GMK Center reports.

The transportation of ferrous metals across the border with Poland for January-September was as follows:

export – 793 thousand tons (-22% y/y);

import – 163 thousand tons (+24% y/y).

Through the Izov crossing, 2.35 million tons of iron ore were exported in January-September (-26% y/y). Imports of ferrous metals amounted to 39 thousand tons (+38% y/y), while exports were 371 thousand tons (-27% y/y).

Through the Mostyska II crossing, 118 thousand tons of ferrous metals were imported (+16% y/y), and 420 thousand tons were exported (-16% y/y). The export of ore amounted to 107 thousand tons (-66% y/y).

Imports of ferrous metals through the Yahodyn crossing reached 5 thousand tons, while exports were 2 thousand tons (-66% y/y) in January-September.

During the nine months, 96% of iron and manganese ore was exported through the Izov crossing. The share of ferrous metal exports through the Mostyska II crossing was 53%.

In total, during the nine months of the current year, 7.56 million tons were transported in export traffic through the border crossings with Poland (-15% y/y), while 5.61 million tons were imported (+21% y/y).

As reported by GMK Center, the total volume of transportation of iron and manganese ore decreased by 36.7% to 16.7 million tons from January to June. The main reason was a 31% decrease in exports, or 5.3 million tons. Domestic transportation also decreased by 0.81 million tons (-14%).

At the same time, the total volume of transportation of ferrous metals for the same period increased by 96 thousand tons, or 2%, to 4.5 million tons. Export transportation decreased by only 31.6 thousand tons to 2.7 million tons. Import transportation, on the other hand, increased by 80% to 251 thousand tons.
