Restrictions introduced in Chernihiv and Kherson regions due to bovine nodular dermatitis
In Ukraine, cases of contagious bovine nodular dermatitis (CBND) have not been registered so far, but due to the risk of infection from Russia, two regions have already been recognized as dangerous zones. Veterinary services have strengthened control over the movement of animals. This was reported by the acting head of the regional department of the State Food Safety and Consumer Protection Service Lyudmyla Kravets, according to Agronews.ua.
The status of a dangerous zone will remain in effect until the disease is eliminated in the respective territory. The entire Chernihiv region has been recognized as a dangerous zone due to the risk of the spread of nodular dermatitis from the territory of Russia, where the disease has already been recorded. Chernihiv region became the second region where such measures were introduced in the last two weeks. On October 2, Kherson region was recognized as a dangerous zone. There, veterinarians examined 3429 heads of cattle. As of October 8, no cases of the disease were detected in the region under Ukraine’s control.
In Chernihiv region, veterinary supervision has been strengthened, and continuous quarantine control has been introduced. The movement of cattle is allowed only after veterinary examination. Animal owners are also advised to treat their livestock against ticks, mosquitoes, and other insects that can transmit the virus.
