Apples have become cheaper in Ukraine

Prices for apples in Ukraine are decreasing against the background of a better harvest than last year and problems with the sale of processing raw materials. According to the Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation, by the middle of October, prices fell to 20-30 UAH/kg. This was reported by “Facts ICTV”, as written by agronews.ua.

In retail chains, the cheapest small apples cost from 19.90 UAH/kg. In ATB, the Gala variety is sold for 24.90-43.90 UAH/kg, and Golden for 20.90-56.90 UAH/kg. At Metro, Ukrainian apples with a diameter of 60 mm cost around 32 UAH/kg, while premium Gala apples are about 67 UAH/kg.

One of the reasons for the price drop, as indicated by analysts, is related to Poland’s restrictions on Ukrainian apple concentrate. Processors find it more difficult to sell their products in the EU, so they have reduced the purchase of raw materials, leading to lower prices. Some apples intended for processing ended up on the fresh fruit market, increasing the supply.

The second factor relates to the harvest. According to Maxim Gopka, an analyst at the Ukrainian Agrarian Business Club, this year’s harvest is better than last year’s. In the fall of 2025, apples cost about 2.5 times more due to low yields than the year before, but there is currently no reason to expect a repeat of this scenario. According to the analyst, the new harvest should be sufficient for the domestic market.

Ukrainian apples are seeking new sales markets. According to the magazine “Gardening in Ukrainian”, in the 2025/26 season, exports amounted to over 22 thousand tons compared to about 16.8 thousand tons in the previous season. They were supplied to the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, and Sweden. During this time, imports decreased to approximately 5.5 thousand tons from 18.2 thousand tons.

The situation aligns with the global trend. World exports of fresh apples from 2016 to 2025 decreased by 21%, while real prices hardly increased. In such conditions, those who expand the geography of sales benefit.

Prices may gradually rise before winter. Farmers will select the best apples for long-term storage, and costs for warehouses, temperature maintenance, and electricity will be added to the price.
