As per Reuters, GM secured a $14.8 million contract in September 2024 from the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service for this project. The total expenditure could soar up to $40.8 million by the anticipated delivery deadline in 2029.Although specific details remain confidential, a spokesperson from the Secret Service disclosed to Reuters the extensive efforts of their engineering, protective operations, and technical security teams in developing a cutting-edge framework for these advanced vehicles. The spokesperson refrained from disclosing precise costs or timelines at this early stage.The current iteration of “The Beast” was introduced in 2018, featuring a customized Cadillac sedan built upon a platform derived from the GMC TopKick heavy-duty truck. Weighing an estimated 20,000 pounds (about 9,100 kg), the vehicle is engineered to withstand a broad spectrum of threats. Previous generations of “The Beast” were launched in 2001 and 2009, each setting new benchmarks in protection and technology.
